Moms Morning Memo
Ready for some delicious hands-on fun? Introducing your next favorite craft project: the DIY Shoebox Pizza Oven! Perfect for sparking imagination and culinary playtime, this activity helps kids (and parents) create their own pretend pizza paradise.
Okay, it may seem a little intimidating to see a 3-part process below but we just wanted to make every step as clear as possible. This activity is still easy peasy and still doable for everyone. And hey, you’ve got a team of cute little helpers to make everything worthwhile. Let’s get started!
Activity of the Day
Shoebox Pizza Oven

Materials You'll Need
Shoebox with lid
Aluminum foil
Black paint (optional)
Scissors or craft knife
Glue or tape
Ruler
Marker
Cardboard for pizza and pizza pan
Colored paper or markers for pizza toppings
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep the Shoebox
Begin with a clean, empty shoebox. For an added touch, paint the outside black.
2. Create the Oven Door
On one short side of the shoebox, draw a rectangle to serve as your oven door. Carefully cut along the top and sides, leaving the bottom attached to create a flap.
3. Line the Inside with Foil
Cover the inside of the shoebox and its lid with aluminum foil. Smooth out the foil and secure it using glue or tape.
4. Assemble the Oven
Place the lid on the shoebox to complete the main oven structure.
5. Final Touches
Decorate your oven with drawn-on knobs or dials. Use extra cardboard pieces for added 3D effects.
Making the Pizza and Pizza Pan
Cut out a round piece of cardboard for your pizza base.
Add Sauce and Cheese
Use red and yellow paper or markers to add sauce and cheese on your cardboard base.
Add Toppings
Cut out shapes from colored paper for toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, and peppers. Glue these onto the pizza base.
Making the Pizza Pan
Creating the Pizza Pan
Cut out a slightly larger round piece of cardboard for the pizza to sit on. Cover it with aluminum foil to mimic a real pizza pan!
Wrap-Up
Now that you’re all set, enjoy your pizza parties at home! This DIY Shoebox Pizza Oven offers endless hours of imaginative play.
