What You’ll Need:

  • Egg carton (bottom half)

  • Tempera paint (red, green, black)

  • Paintbrushes

  • Glue

  • Googly eyes

  • Pipe cleaners (black and brown)

  • White tissue paper

  • Craft needle or push pin

  • Scissors

  • Markers

  • Hot glue gun (optional)

Steps to Create Your Egg Carton Bugs:

  1. Start by cutting the egg carton into individual cups or rows, depending on which bugs your child wants to make. Ladybugs, beetles, or caterpillars—the choice is theirs!

  2. Let your kids paint each egg cup in their chosen colors. Once the paint is dry, they can add eyes, legs, and antennae using googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and markers.

  3. Use a craft needle or push pin to create holes for the pipe cleaner legs and antennae. Thread the pipe cleaners through, bend or twist to secure, and add any final details with tissue paper wings or additional paint.

Why Your Kids Will Love This:

This craft is not only fun but also a great way for kids to express their creativity and learn about different insects. Plus, it’s an easy activity that encourages recycling and repurposing materials you already have at home.

Take the fun up a notch!

Encourage your kids to name their bugs and create a little habitat for them. They can even make up stories about their bugs’ adventures, adding another layer of fun to this simple craft.

We’d love to see your child’s egg carton bugs! Share photos of their creations and let us know how they enjoyed the activity.
