Things You’ll Need:

  • Potatoes (halved)

  • Non-toxic paint in various colors

  • Paper towels

  • Paper or cardstock for stamping

  • Knife (for grown ups only!)

  • Paper plates or trays for paint

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Carefully cut the potatoes in half (this is an adult step). Each half will become a stamp.

  2. Carve simple shapes into each potato half. You can try stars, hearts, flowers, or even abstract shapes. Remember to dry the potato halves with a paper towel to make the paint stick better.

  3. Squeeze some paint onto a plate or tray, and press the potato stamps into the paint. Make sure they are fully covered but not dripping.

  4. Hand the potato stamps to your child and let them go wild with creativity. They can press the potato stamps onto paper or cardstock to create fun and colorful prints. Try mixing different colors and shapes for a masterpiece!

More Tips:

  • Want to make this activity even more exciting? Use metallic or glitter paint to give the prints a little sparkle.

  • Instead of paper, try potato stamping on fabric! Old pillowcases or tote bags make great canvases for these fun designs.

  • Set up a "stamping station" with different colors of paint and shapes so your child can experiment freely.
