DIY Toy Car
Moms Morning Memo
Who knew an old plastic bottle could be transformed into your kids’ new favorite toy? With a few recycled materials, you and your little ones can create a DIY toy car that’s ready to zoom across the living room. It's all about the fun of creating something together—nothing beats the smiles when that car takes its first spin!
Activity of the Day
DIY Toy Car

Things You'll Need:
1 large plastic bottle (like a soda or water bottle)
4 plastic bottle caps (for the wheels)
2 straws or wooden skewers (for axles)
Tape or glue
Scissors or a craft knife (used by an adult)
Markers or paint (optional, for decorating)
Optional: Small piece of cardboard for extra stability
💡 Inspiration
Step-by-Step Process:
Start by thoroughly cleaning and drying the plastic bottle. If you want a smooth surface for decorating, remove any labels.
Using scissors or a craft knife, carefully create two small holes on opposite sides of the bottle near the bottom. These will be where you insert the straws or skewers to form the axles.
Thread a straw or skewer through the holes you made, creating one axle at the front and another at the back.
Take the plastic bottle caps and poke a small hole in the center of each. Slide one cap onto each end of the straws or skewers and secure them with tape or glue, making sure they can still spin freely.
If the car wobbles too much, you can add a small piece of cardboard under the bottle and attach it with tape to create a more stable base.
Let your child’s imagination run wild by decorating their car with markers, paint, or stickers. Whether it’s a race car or a family vehicle, make it their own!
Once everything is dry and secure, place the car on a flat surface and give it a gentle push to watch it roll. It's ready for endless fun!
Level up the fun!
Get the whole family involved! Each member can create their own car, and you can set up a mini race track at home for some friendly competition.
You can also experiment with different bottle sizes and shapes to see how they affect the car’s speed and stability.
For an extra challenge, try adding some weight inside the bottle to see how it affects the car’s performance.
We can't wait to see the cars your kids come up with! Be sure to share pictures of their creations and let us know about the races and adventures they take on.
