Things You’ll Need:
Crayon pieces
Wax paper
An iron
Newspapers or an old towel
Cardstock for mounting
Step-by-step Process:
Have everyone in the family gather their crayon stubs. Older kids or adults can shave them into small flakes.
Spread out a sheet of wax paper. Let your kids sprinkle the crayon shavings on it, creating whatever patterns or color combinations they love.
Cover the shavings with another wax paper piece and sandwich the setup between newspapers. Lightly press a warm iron over it just until the crayons melt together—watch the colors swirl and mix!
Once it cools, peel off the newspapers. What’s left is a vibrant sheet that looks like stained glass. Mount this onto cardstock to give it form and maybe add a frame.
Why We Love This:
More than anything, this project is about transforming everyday items into something extraordinary. It’s a perfect metaphor for creativity: making new from the old, seeing potential in the discarded.
These colorful creations make perfect window hangings because light shines through them beautifully. Or cut them into custom shapes for unique gifts. Whatever you choose, these pieces are sure to spark conversations.
