Lemon Volcanoes
Moms Morning Memo
Get ready for an exciting and aromatic science adventure right in your kitchen! Today, we're making Lemon Volcanoes. This activity is not only a blast to watch but also a fantastic sensory experience for your little scientists.
Activity of the Day
Lemon Volcanoes
A fizzy, colorful experiment for curious minds.

What you’ll need:
Lemons (2 per volcano recommended)
Baking Soda
Liquid Watercolors or Food Coloring
Craft Stick
Dish Soap
Tray
Cup & Spoons

Step-by-step process:
Slice the bottom off to make them sit flat. Core the lemons or slice them in half for an open-faced volcano.
Prepare extra lemon juice by juicing a second lemon. Set aside.
Place your cored lemon on a tray. Mush the center with a craft stick to bring out the juices.
Add a few drops of coloring and a squeeze of dish soap to the lemon.
Add a spoonful of baking soda and stir. Watch as it starts to fizz and foam!
Alternate adding more baking soda, coloring, dish soap, and lemon juice to keep the reaction lively.
Why we love this activity
This activity is a fantastic way to introduce your kids to basic chemical reactions. The citric acid in the lemon reacts with baking soda, creating a fizzy, frothy eruption. It's a hands-on way to explore science concepts while having fun.
Lemon Volcanoes are not just visually exciting; they're also a treat for the senses with their pleasant citrus scent. It's a great way to combine learning with sensory play.
