Activity of the Day

I Spy (Meal Time Edition)

Make mealtime fun with a creative twist.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Assorted fruits, vegetables and other food items

  • Cookie cutters (optional)

  • A plate for assembling the food objects

  • Imagination and creativity!

Step-by-step Process:

  1. Wash and cut a variety of fruits and vegetables. Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes, or simply carve them into recognizable objects like stars, animals, or letters.

  2. Arrange the food pieces on a plate to form different objects. Get creative—think of items like a car made from cucumber slices and cherry tomatoes, or a flower with apple slices and grapes.

  3. Play I Spy: Present the plate to your child and play the I Spy game. For example, say “I spy with my little eye… a flower.” When your child guesses correctly, they get to take a bite of the food object.

  4. Continue creating new food objects and playing the game throughout the meal. This keeps your child engaged and excited about eating their food.

Pro tips:

  1. Use a mix of familiar and new foods to introduce different tastes and textures.

  2. Make it a family activity where everyone takes turns guessing and eating.

Why we love this activity:

The Food I Spy game turns mealtime into a fun, interactive experience. It encourages kids to eat a variety of foods while enjoying the challenge of guessing and discovering new shapes. It’s a great way to make healthy eating enjoyable and stress-free.
