Homemade Spiders

Moms Morning Memo

Ready to add a little excitement to your crafting sessions? Let’s make a playful spider craft that’s perfect for engaging your little ones with a hands-on activity. This simple project is not only fun but also serves as a great tool for learning about nature and biology.

Activity of the Day

Homemade Spiders

A delightful project for all ages that can be done at home.

What you’ll need:

  • Black pipe cleaners

  • Googly eyes

  • Small pom poms

  • Glue

  • Scissors

Step-by-step process:

  1. Choose a pom pom for the spider’s body. You can pick any color you like; black is a classic, but bright colors are fun too!

  2. Fold four pipe cleaners in half to make eight legs. Attach these legs to the pom pom by twisting them at their center.

  3. Stick the googly eyes onto the pom pom. You can be creative with the number of eyes based on the spooky or cute spider look you’re going for.

  4. Bend the pipe cleaners to make your spider's legs wavy or zigzagged, depending on what your child finds most amusing.

Why we love this activity

Creating this spider craft is a fantastic way for kids to improve their fine motor skills as they cut, twist, and glue the materials. It’s also an excellent opportunity to introduce some basic biology in a fun and interactive way. Discussing how spiders move, what they eat, and where they live can make this craft educational as well as enjoyable.

After making the craft, why not read a book about spiders or watch a short documentary on them? It could help satisfy any curiosity your child has about these fascinating creatures and extend the learning experience beyond the craft itself.
