Activity of the Day
DIY Magnifying Glass

Create your own tool for exploring the small wonders around you
💡 Inspiration
Things You’ll Need:
A plastic bottle
Clear plastic (from packaging or old plastic folders)
Scissors
Tape
Water
A small rubber band
Step-by-Step Process:
Carefully cut the top off the plastic bottle, leaving about 2 inches below the bottle neck. This will be the body of your magnifying glass.
Cut a circular piece of clear plastic that fits snugly over the bottle neck opening. Make sure it's slightly larger than the opening so it can be secured.
Place the clear plastic circle over the bottle neck and secure it with a small rubber band. Make sure it's tight enough to hold water without leaking.
Pour water into the bottle until it’s full and the plastic is slightly bulging. This water-filled lens will magnify objects when you look through it.

Pro Tips:
Use the magnifying glass outdoors to examine plants, insects, and other natural wonders.
Try looking at different textures and materials to see how they change under magnification.
Encourage your kids to draw or write about their discoveries.
Why This Activity is Fascinating
Making a DIY magnifying glass is a fun way to explore science and nature. It helps kids understand the concept of magnification and encourages them to observe the small details in their environment. Whether looking at leaves, bugs, or everyday objects, this activity opens up a whole new world.
