How to Build Your Cardboard Laptop:

  1. Cut two large rectangles from the cardboard to serve as the laptop's screen and keyboard. Make sure they are the same size.

  2. Draw and cut out keys from colored paper. Glue them onto one of the cardboard pieces to create the keyboard layout. Get creative with the keys—maybe even add some fun symbols or stickers!

  3. On the other cardboard piece, draw a screen. You can paint a picture, glue on a photo, or even make a mini-collage. The screen is a blank canvas for your child’s creativity.

  4. Attach the two pieces together along one edge using glue or tape, creating a hinge. This will allow the laptop to open and close.

  5. Use markers or crayons to add details, like a logo or decorative elements, to make the laptop look more realistic.

Pro Tip:

Encourage your kids to create a pretend website or software for their laptop. They can draw icons, create a pretend desktop background, or even write a mini-story that they can “type” on their new creation.

Why we love this activity

Building a cardboard laptop not only keeps kids busy but also encourages them to think about design and functionality. It’s a great way to introduce basic concepts of technology and creativity without any screen time.
